July 31 By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend: Turkey wants to become a member of ASEAN, the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a visit to Indonesia, the Turkish TV channel TRT Haber said July 31.

Erdogan stressed the importance of this organization for Turkey.

ASEAN is a political, economic and cultural regional intergovernmental organization of countries located in the South-East Asia. It was established August 9, 1967 in Bangkok.

On July 30, the Turkish president said during his visit to China that Ankara intends to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

He said that after India and Pakistan decided to join the SCO, this structure has acquired special importance for Turkey.
