‘Police must maintain public trust’ Brunei

Ensuring the safety and security of society

THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) must carry out its duties and responsibilities with presence, effectiveness and sincerity, said the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). In his speech at the 94th RBPF anniversary celebration yesterday, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohd Yasmin Hj Umar said these qualities will enable the police to maintain public trust in ensuring the safety and security of society.

"I also believe that with strategies in this direction, the support and cooperation given by the public to the RBPF will not only be maintained but also enhanced," he said.

Elaborating on the importance of police presence, the guest of honour said a strategy employed by the police force involved improving visibility through patrols and outreach campaigns with the local community. He said such presence will make local residents feel safer.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Mohd Yasmin also noted that presence is closely tied to effectiveness, which the public will assess based on whether there is a reduction in criminal activities and violations of laws and rules.

He highlighted the role of control posts, police booths and equipment including CCTV cameras towards improving police presence and effectiveness. However, he warned that a lack of manpower and equipment should not be used as an excuse for programmes that didn't achieve the expected targets.
