Riyadh, Jan. 2 By Umid Niayesh - Trend: Several foreign ministers including foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Saud Al-Faisal and Russia, Sergey Lavrov have expressed hope that Iran and the P5+1 achieve an agreement on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear case, an Iranian foreign ministry official said.

The foreign ministers made the remarks in letters to Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Islamic Republic’s Fars news agency reported Jan. 2.

The official said that the foreign ministers in their official response to Zarif’s letter, which was sent in early December, have emphasized that a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group (the US, UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany) would be important and advantageous for the world as well as the region countries.

It should be noted that talks between Iran and the P5+1 group has been extended until July 1, 2015 in order to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement.

After the sides failed to meet the 24 Nov. deadline they also extended the Geneva nuclear deal, which was signed in November 2013, to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.

Some Islamic Republic officials have on numerous occasions accused Saudi Arabia of imposing pressure on the US administration in its nuclear talks with Iran.

In a recent similar statement, Esmail Kovsari, member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy commission told Trend that “Israel and Saudi Arabia don’t want an agreement on the nuclear issue between the US and Iran.”

On Dec. 8, Mohammad Javad Zarif briefed all his counterparts across the world excluding the Israeli foreign minister on the latest developments in the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1.

Zarif has criticized the western side in his letter saying, “while Iran has shown its good faith by completely fulfilling its part of the bargain under the deal, the US and EU have adopted more measures to maintain and strengthen the sanctions regime than to live up to their sanction-easing commitments”.

Iranian FM also emphasized that clinching a comprehensive nuclear deal is accessible.

“It requires foresight, political will and recognition of realities by our negotiating partners as well as the audacity to make the right choice benefiting the entire global community rather than succumbing to the whims of vocal, but increasingly unpopular, pressure groups and special interests,” Zarif said in his letter.
