ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Security forces in the United Arab Emirates have arrested a woman suspect who is alleged to have stabbed to death an American teacher and also planted a bomb outside an Egyptian-American doctor's house, police said.

The police suspected the woman had some links with an unnamed terrorist group and that she had chosen her victims on the basis of their nationalities.

ABC cited police as saying that she "not lone wolf". In fact, her house, the police said, was "a base of operations".

The Islamic State terror organization that controls swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq has called on Muslims to carry out "lone wolf" attacks on the group's enemies.

However it was not absolutely clear if the suspect in the Abu Dhabi stabbing and attempted bombing had been motivated by such calls.

Interior Minister Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed al Nahyan told reporters that the suspect in a veil is an Emirati national in her late 30s. Authorities didn't reveal her name.

Giving the details of her attacks, the minister said that the woman was wearing a veil when she stabbed 47-year-old mother-of-two Ibolya Ryan, who once lived in Colorado, in a mall restroom on Reem Island Monday.

Ryan, the mother of twin 11-year-old boys, was trained as a teacher before being assigned to the United Arab Emirates in September 2013, said Ben Glickman, CEO of Canadian-based Footprints Recruiting, which placed her in the job.

An hour after the stabbing, she planted a home-made bomb outside the house of a Muslim Egyptian-American doctor, he said.

But the explosive device, made of small gas cylinders, a lighter, glue and nails, was successfully dismantled.

The minister said that the suspect targeted her victims based solely on their nationality and did not know either of them.

"She aimed to create chaos, shake the security in the country and terrorize people in the UAE," he said, adding that investigations were continuing into the exact motive behind the killing and attempting to bomb a residential house.

The attacks have shaken the United Arab Emirates, a wealthy Persian Gulf Arab nation known for ornate malls and skyscrapers. The UAE is a regional hub for business and banking.

The American Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed the killing and advised American citizens to keep a low profile.

The Abu Dhabi police posted a video online Thursday that showed the suspect entering and leaving an apartment building while pulling a small rolling bag. The video then showed officers raiding a home and leading a woman in a light blue nightgown to a police car.
