Kazakhstan starts supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan

Kazakhstan will supply electricity at 15.7 tenge per kilowatt

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 2 By Elena Kosolapova- Trend: Kazakhstan started supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan on December 1, Samruk-Energo company said on Dec. 2.
Earlier Kazakh Zhambul GRES power plant and Kyrgyz Electro Stations company agreed on the supplies of one billion KWh of electricity until April.
Kazakhstan will supply electricity at 15.7 tenge (180.87 tenge =$1) per kilowatt. Kyrgyzstan, in turn, will provide Kazakhstan with irrigation water during the vegetation period.
A subsidiary of Samruk-Energo - Zhambyl GRES power plant generates 230 MW of electrical power for the needs of the power system of the Kyrgyzstan.
In order to ensure electricity supplies to Kyrgyzstan, Samruk-Energo signed additional contracts with Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) on electricity transmission to the Kyrgyz border. Moreover the company agreed with Kazakh gas transporting company KazTransGas on the gas supplies in order to produce the contractual amounts of electricity.
“The measures taken by the two countries will improve water and energy balance in 2014-2015. Supplies of Kazakh electricity will contribute to the accumulation of water at Toktogul Hydro Power Plant, as well as allow reducing the risks of unstable work of Kyrgyzstan’s power system in winter,” Samruk-Energo said.
The electricity supplies from Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan were agreed within of the talks of the heads of two countries in Astana in early November.
