Tbilisi, Georgia, Sept. 4 By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend: NATO-Georgia special package has been practically agreed upon with the representatives of the alliance's member countries, Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania told reporters Sept. 4.

He made the remarks during the NATO Summit held in Newport, Wales.

Alasania said it is also planned to take certain steps to provide Georgia with corresponding opportunities to defend its territory and population.

"Essentially the package envisages the creation of a regional training center in Georgia. It is aimed at improving the Georgian armed forces' ability to cooperate with NATO forces. A NATO expert team will arrive in Georgia. They will monitor the implementation of this program," he stressed.

Alasania added that the summit will focus on improving military capabilities of both NATO member countries and Georgia.

The summit will also discuss the reforms at the defence ministry and the strengthening of the armed forces.

Key NATO leaders agreed during a summit meeting on Thursday that Russia should faced increased sanctions for its actions in eastern Ukraine, the White House said, Reuters reported.

U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi sat down with Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko on the fringes of a NATO summit in Wales.
