Kuwaiti Emir Sabah al-Ahmed dissolved parliament Sunday, the state news agency reported, clearing the way for an early election in the oil-producing Gulf emirate, dpa reported.

The constitution says the vote must be held within two months. Al-Ahmed set no date for the new poll in his decree dissolving the legislature.

Opposition demonstrators have been protesting to demand a constitutional monarchy.
