Tajik president states about full understanding in talks with Russian counterpart

Mutual desire to strengthen political contacts

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has expressed satisfaction with the results of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin's visit to Dushanbe and the negotiations, RIA Novosti reported today.

"The talks were held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding," the Tajik president said. "We have discussed a full range of our inter-state relations, checked the positions of the parties on the prospects for their further development."

He said that the mutual desire to strengthen political contacts was stressed.

"We have agreed to intensify joint efforts to further expand the economic component of the relations, in proportion to the level of military and political partnership," Rahmon said.

He said that the agreement about positive resolving the issue of renewing the registration term of labor migrants and their license for activity was reached to strengthen the social and legal protection of migrant workers. The agreement about the oil product supply from Russia to Tajikistan's domestic consumption without paying import duties was also reached.

"Tajikistan and Russia have advanced in the further development of military and military-technical cooperation,' the Tajik president said. "We agreed that close cooperation in this area is in the strategic interests of both sides and serves to strengthen stability and security in the region. He stressed that a new package of documents in this sphere, including an agreement on the status and conditions of the Russian military base in Tajikistan was stressed.
