BERLIN -- A German politician playing on the country's TV- version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" phoned a friend for help on a tough question: German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

German MP Wolfgang Bosbach was a contestant on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire and had managed to win 125,000 euros using his own brainpower, but when facing the 500,000 euro stumper, he decided he need to phone in some intellectual support.

Bosbach chose to dial up German Chancellor Angela Merkel to see if she could help.

The question was: "Why the East German cult WM66 washing machine was legendary among other things, because many owners used it to (a) generate heating, (b) cook food, (c) vacuum clean, or (d) receive radio from the West?"

Bosbach called on his personal cellphone to keep Merkel's number private, but people were quick to joke that the American NSA would be listening anyway.

Unfortunately, the chancellor did not answer after he called twice. He had to give up and settle for 125,000 euros, which he donated to charity.

The washing machine was, in fact, used to boil food. "Ok whatever it was, warm greetings from AM," Merkel texted back later.
