The death toll from floods caused by heavy rains in Russia’s southern Krasnodarsky Krai region has risen to 78 from 67 with the discovery of more bodies, police said Saturday.

Sixty-seven bodies including that of a 10-year-old were found in the region’s Krymsk district, while nine others died in the Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik and two in the port of Novorossiisk over the past two days, regional police spokesman Igor Zhelyabin told, reports the Voice of Russia.

Some 5,000 properties have been flooded, while the town of Krymsk is almost entirely underwater.

Rescue workers in helicopters are rushing to the troubled region.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry has sent aid and medicines to the area.

President Vladimir Putin has ordered the authorities in charge to take urgent measures to stabilize the situation in the region and restore the damaged facilities. surprise
