BANGALORE, India - In a bid to take its successful operations international, Indian ride-sharing giant Ola has announced that it would be launching in Australia.

The ride-sharing company, which was founded in 2011, now boasts of over 125 million users and one million driver-partners across 110 cities in India.

The company said that it would launch in Australia early this year and called for private car owners in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth to register an interest in becoming an Ola driver-partner.

Ola co-founder and chief executive officer Bhavish Aggarwal said in a statement on Tuesday, “We are very excited about launching Ola in Australia and see immense potential for the ride-sharing ecosystem which embraces new technology and innovation.”

He added, “With a strong focus on driver-partners and the community at large, we aim to create a high-quality and affordable travel experience for citizens and look forward to contributing to a healthy mobility ecosystem in Australia.”

Ola’s announcement comes years after its chief competitor in Indian, Uber, launched in Sydney in November 2012.
