BIHAR, India - Security at the Bodh Gaya pilgrimage centre in the Indian state of Bihar was intensified after two bombs were found at the temple, where the Tibetan spiritual guru Dalai Lama is currently staying.

On Saturday, authorities said that two cane bombs were found at the Bodh Gaya temple after which the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had taken over security of the temple complex.

Gaya Senior Superintendent of police Garima Mallik said that two cane bombs of 10 kg each were found at gate number 4 of Bodh Gaya temple late on Friday evening and were yet to be diffused on Saturday morning.

Local police officials confirmed that two cane bombs have been found and that the bomb disposal squad had taken the bombs to a remote area to diffuse them.

The police officials said that when a minor blast took place at the temple complex the police launched a search operation in which a burst thermos flask was found at the kitchen.

According to local reports, the bombs were found after Dalai Lama had just concluded his sermon and retired for the day when the bombs were found.

Dalai Lama is present at the temple for the month-long Kalchakra puja of Buddhist pilgrims that is ongoing at the Buddhist temple.

When the bombs were detected, the governor of Bihar, Satya Pal Malik too was present at the Bodh Gaya temple.

Reports stated that earlier, Intelligence agencies had alerted security officials about the threat at the Buddhist temple during Kalchakra puja but no extra security measures were taken.

Previously, in 2013, the pilgrimage centre of the Dalai Lama witnessed an explosion.

At the time, the Maha Bodhi temple, where Lord Buddha is said to have attained his enlightenment, was rocked by a series of at least ten bomb blasts after morning prayers were completed.
