LONDON, U.K. - A day after criticizing the U.S. President Donald Trump following his decision to cancel his trip to the U.K., the London Mayor Sadiq Khan was heckled by Trump supporters during a speech in central London.

Supporters of Trump and Brexit, belonging to an alt-right group that calls itself the White Pendragons, held American flags and attempted to perform a “citizen’s arrest” of the London mayor and Trump critic Sadiq Khan on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Khan was delivering a speech at the left-wing Fabian Society in the U.K. capital city, but the event was interrupt by protesters shouting pro-Trump and pro-Brexit slogans and disrupted his talk.

The London Mayor was heckled a day after Khan said that U.S. President Donald Trump had “got the message” that he was “not welcome in London” following the president’s decision to cancel a planned state visit.

Protesters even made their anger apparent on the social media, with one protester posting a video on Twitter, in which he said, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're here today to make a non-violent, peaceful citizen's arrest."

Soon after protesters began to yell slogans, security officials appeared to usher out the protesters, who even faced jeering and heckling by the crowd who had come to see Khan’s speech.

A protester quoted in the local media refused to leave and told reporters, "We stand under common law jurisdiction. If you touch us, you'll be done for common assault. Please stand back, do not touch us. We're not leaving, we've paid for a ticket."

And as the security escorted the protesters out, reports noted that Khan sat down and flicked through a newspaper, waiting for the commotion to die down.

Soon as the protesters were cleared out, Khan again took aim at Trump, saying, “It is a pleasure to be here even though we were distracted by the actions of what some would call very stable geniuses,” referring to Trump’s tweet from last week, in which he referred to himself as a "very stable genius."

Khan has been a longstanding Trump critic and was attacked by the president for urging calm after the London Bridge terror attack in June last year.

A total of eight people were killed in that attack.

The U.S. President had misquoted a statement by Khan and had tweeted then, “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is "no reason to be alarmed!"
