LONDON, U.K. - U.S. President Donald Trump and London Mayor Sadiq Khan have been engaged in a furious war of words since June this year.

Now, intensifying the fight further, Khan blasted Trump’s rhetoric, claiming that it was similar to that of the world’s most dangerous terror group, ISIS.

Claiming that when Trump implies that there is a clash of civilizations between the West and Muslims, the American President is using the same rhetoric of ISIS.

Making the remarks during a Guardian Live event at the Labour party conference in Brighton, Sadiq Khan reportedly said Trump’s ban on Muslim-majority countries is counterproductive.

Khan said that he was offended by Trump’s call for a ban on Muslims and the president’s claim that he would make an exception for the Labour politician.

He said, “My view firstly, ‘I’m not exceptional,’ and secondly, ‘Think about what you are saying.’ Because what you are saying is not dissimilar to what Daesh or so-called ISIS says.”

He went on to add, “They say that there is a clash of civilisations, it is not possible to be a Muslim and a westerner, and the west hates us. And you are inadvertently playing their game, you are helping them.”

Khan added that it would not be right for Britain to host Trump and called the state visit that U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May planned as “wrong.”

He added, “I sometimes think people are ignorant.”

Earlier this year following a terror attack in London, Trump criticized Khan for a post-attack quote in which the mayor said there was “no reason to be alarmed.”

Khan’s comment was in the context of a broader quote regarding a bolstered police presence.

However, Trump suggested the mayor was downplaying the terror attack itself.

When asked for a response, Khan brushed off Trump’s remarks, with his office saying the mayor “has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump's ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police — including armed officers — on the streets.”

Khan said on Sunday that he was a “reluctant participant” in the continuing hostility between himself and the U.S. President.

Meanwhile, Khan also praised the contribution American Muslims had made to the country, including as students, artists and politicians.

He added that Trump’s ban on travellers from a number of Muslim-majority countries gave the “wrong impression” of the religion.

He added, “I’m a westerner, but also a very proud Muslim. There are some people who want to divide our communities – I’m not going to let them.”
