The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has said seven of its soldiers were killed on Saturday.

Five died in a roadside bomb attack in Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. The improvised explosive device was planted in an area in which many Taliban still exist.

Two other NATO troops were killed by an Afghan army soldier in the far west of the country in the Bala Boluk district of Farah.

The weekend killings have been part of one of the bloodiest weeks for international forces.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the shooting attack through its web mail, in which the Taliban insurgent who shot the troops was referred to as an infiltrator.

He turned his weapon on the US troops at the base before he was killed.

21 US military personnel have been killed in the past week, either at the hands of the Taliban or in air crashes.

Earlier in the week, three British troops were killed when their vehicle hit an explosive device in the southern province of Helmand.
