Israel has conducted an air-strike on Syria.

Tel Aviv officials have told Press TV the aerial bombing took place on Saturday.

According to sources the attack by Israeli fighters was centred on a shipment of weapons which had arrived in Syria on Friday.

The attack was supposedly approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a security cabinet meeting.

The weapons destroyed in the air strike were said to have had the potential of improving the chances of the Syrian regime of staying in power.

The regime's fighter jets stayed outside the Syrian borders while conducting the attack.

Israeli warplanes had targeted a research facility on Syrian soil earlier this year.
