BUCHANAN, U.S. - A reactor at the Indian Point nuclear Power plant, 46 miles north of Manhattan, had to be taken offline after authorities found a leaking pipe.> Big News Network

The reactor will reportedly be shut down for a few days for repairs even as anti-Indian Point protesters spoke out on the safety hazards in the power plant.

Governor Andrew Cuomo, a long time opponent of the power plant said that the leak is yet another evidence to his claims on why the power plant should be shut down completely.

The Governor reportedly said, “The wearing away of important components at the facility are having a direct and unacceptable impact on safety.”

The nuclear power plant, owned by Entergy had earlier faced a similar case in March when the same reactor was taken out of service.

Inspectors at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission had found hundreds of damaged bolts.

However, Entergy spokesman Jerry Nappi said that the plant was one of the most reliable in the state and the leak was from a "nonradioactive system.”

Hence, Nappi said, that there was not much to worry about regarding hazards to safety.

Indian point 2, operating along the Hudson River in Westchester County, is one of the two reactors waiting for renewal of licence after their previous operating licenses for 40 years expired in 2013 and 2015 (Indian point 3).

Meanwhile, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, an environmental group has requested Federal officials to investigate further on their operations and hold trials on the plant's safety.
