ALEPPO, Syria - 15 people were killed while dozens were injured after repeated airstrikes on the rebel-held areas of the Syrian city of Aleppo.> Big News Network

According to reports, the UN has said that three medical facilities were hit in a matter of three hours.

A BBC report claimed that one of the hospitals that was hit is one of the few hospitals that provides paediatric care.

Another hospital that was hit was al-Bayan hospital in the eastern Shaar district.

The hospital has been shut down after the airstrikes.

Abo al-Ezz, who coordinates the Aleppo activities of the Syrian-American Medical Society, a charity reportedly said, “The place [al-Shaar] has been hit several times and the goal seems to be to kill as many people as possible in a crowded area. It’s an area crowded with civilians and patients who come to these hospitals, so perhaps the target was either civilians or the hospitals.”

According to reports, it is not clear who was responsible for the attacks. However, government forces are trying to take control of the city.

Unicef's Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Peter Salama, said in a statement that the three medical facilities that were attacked were al-Bayan and al-Hakim hospitals, and the Abdulhadi Fares clinic, all of which are on the eastern part of the city.

Dr Salama said, “The Al Hakim hospital is one of the few that still provide paediatric services. This is the second attack on the hospital."

The UN has said that health personnel have also been killed in the strikes.

Dr Salama added, “Hundreds of medical facilities that provide critical life-saving health care for thousands have been damaged or destroyed. In the past two weeks alone, six health facilities were attacked across the country.”

Meanwhile, the U.S.-backed forces in Syria are facing assault led by Russia which has raised fears that the rebels could be defeated in a matter of weeks. But the CIA and the Pentagon seem to be fighting among themselves over the matter.

Reports pointed out that the Department of Defence is not ready to support the rebels as they are affiliated with the al Qaeda in Syria and the Nusra Front. The CIA, however, supports the rebels.

But according to Daily Beast, even if the rebels were to cut ties with the Nusra Front, their goals would be quite different from the U.S.. The rebels at Aleppo are fighting the Bashar al–Assad regime while the American military wants to defeat the Islamic State.
