SEOUL, South Korea – The South Korean defense ministry has reportedly revealed that North Korea’s launch of what appeared to be an intermediate ballistic missile has failed.> Big News Network

The Yonhap news agency reportedly disclosed that the missile crashed seconds after it was launched.

The launch, the second one to embarrassingly fail right before the ruling party meeting to be held in Pyongyang on May 6, is reportedly one of the many conducted by the isolated North Korea in the past few months.

The string of launches by North Korea, along with the recent tests of military technology, were conducted in violation of the United Nations resolutions.

A Defence Ministry official, who remained anonymous due to office laws claimed that if the alleged midrange Musudan missile passes tests, it could be capable of reaching U.S. military bases that are in Asia and the Pacific, as it can travel 2,500 miles.

Recent satellite images of North Korean nuclear test site have revealed that the country might be preparing to conduct a fifth nuclear test. Ahead of speculations that the nation might launch the nuke before its long-awaited ruling party congress - the South Korean President Park Geun-hye is said to have warned that it will not tolerate the potential nuclear test, and will respond “firmly.”

She is said to have added that the regime’s relentless hunt for nuclear weapons would ultimately lead to the country’s self- destruction. Further, President Park has also informed the military to be alert and retaliate if North Korea’s Pyongyong incites a provocation.

Tensions in the Korean Peninsula escalated after North conducted its fourth nuclear test in January 2016 claiming that it had successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb. North followed this with a satellite launch in February, irking the international community and provoking the ire of the United Nations, which imposed several sanctions of the reclusive nation.

North Korea continued to send out several threatening signs and military provocations to neighbour and long-standing enemy, South Korea and its main ally, United States. The country has also claimed to have secured key intercontinental ballistic missile technologies like the re-entry and engine technologies and recently even threatened to conduct a “nuclear warhead detonation” test. Pyongyang also announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong- un had inspected the final test fire of the 300-millimeter caliber rockets equipped with an accurate guidance system.

Pyongyang recently also launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile which ended in failure.
