New Georgian Prime Minister appointed

New government headed by Kvirikashvili

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 30 Trend: Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili signed an order on appointment of Giorgi Kvirikashvili for the post of prime minister, the presidential administration said, RIA Novosti reported.

The document was signed by the president on December 30, the presidential administration said.

By majority of votes the Georgian parliament expressed a vote of confidence to the new government headed by Kvirikashvili and a governmental program Dec. 29.

Some 86 MPs voted for the new government and 28 against it.

The parliamentary opposition, including the United National Movement and the Free Democrats has not supported the new government.

The new government was formed after the resignation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The parliamentary majority has agreed on the candidacy of deputy prime minister and Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili for the post of the new head of the Cabinet of Ministers. His candidacy was also confirmed by the president.

Kvirikashvili introduced the staff of his government to the parliament. Almost all ministers from the previous Cabinet of Ministers kept their posts. New people took only those positions previously held by Kvirikashvili. Dmitri Kumsishvili, the minister of economy, has been appointed as deputy prime minister, while Mikhail Janelidze, the first deputy foreign minister, has been appointed as foreign minister.
