BEIRUT, Lebanon - A senior Lebanese minister has warned European nations that the brutal terror group, Islamic State, may be sending its militants posing as refugees fleeing Syria.

Education Minister Elias Bousaab, who met David Cameron during the British prime minister's whirlwind visit to the region, said the Islamist group is sending trained jihadists "under cover" to attack targets in Europe.

Saab suggested that two in every 100 Syrian migrants could be "radicals". And that, he said, would be "more than enough" to cause problems. Britain has promised to accept 20,000 refugees by 2020.

Saab was speaking to reporters as he travelled with Cameron on a visit to Lebanon and Jordan. Cameron highlighted Britain's contribution of more than one billion pounds to support refugee camps for displaced Syrians to stay in the region.

The minister conceded that he had no firm information on terrorist infiltration of refugees, but said his "gut feeling" told him it was happening.

Asked if Islamic State was sending its members into Europe under cover, the minister said: "My gut feeling is yes they are facilitating such an operation Yes, they bring some people, the smugglers.

"They organise groups and send them out. Yes, of course to go to Europe and other places. You may have let's say two per cent [of refugees] that could be radicals."

He said most travelled over land through Turkey to Greece.

"I would say anyone who works together to combat ISIS this is the solution because ISIS is growing and mushrooming," he said, referring to the Islamic State with another acronym for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

"It's becoming a danger because they are recruiting kids from schools, they are recruiting everywhere. It's a very dangerous situation and the world should wake up and do something about that. "

Saab's comments follow repeated warnings from Ukip leader Nigel Farage that Islamic State fighters could enter Europe to carry out attacks, hidden among the mass of migrants.

Meanwhile, on his first visit to Lebanon, Cameron said that without aid, hundreds of thousands more people could attempt the perilous crossing into Europe.

He urged other nations to "step up to the plate" and give more as Britain has given ten times as much as some. The comments come after EU leaders criticised the United Kingdom for not doing enough.

Cameron also went to a camp in Jordan on his 24-hour trip. "I wanted to come here to see for myself and hear stories of refugees," he said.

He said it is in British interests to donate millions to countries such as Lebanon, while announced minister for Syrian refugees on visit to camp.> BNN
